New Developments in Arab Pension Funds
A seminar organised jointly by the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce and the Arab Financial Forum (AFF) took place at the Chamber on 13 July.
It brought together City experts and bankers to examine the impact of the global financial crisis on pension funds worldwide and to consider the changing options for institutional investors in the light of the new financial climate.
Sir Roger Tomkys, ABCC chairman, opened the proceedings, which featured informed speakers from the London Pension Fund Authority, Barclays Capital, BFinance and LGT Capital Partners. The speakers highlighted new investment options such as infrastructure, renewable energy, “real assets” such as land and timber, precious metals and commodities as well as focusing on current trends such as the increasing importance of emerging markets as part of the investment portfolios of institutions. Terry Stone, a Director of the ABCC, chaired one of the sessions.
The AFF has produced a new “Arab Pension Fund Study” which can be obtained by contacting Frederik Carstensen on inquiries@meconsult.co.uk
