Secretary General's official visit to Morocco

During the week beginning 2nd November, the Secretary-General and CEO of the ABCC Dr Afnan Al Shuaiby made an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.

On 02nd-06th November, Dr Afnan Al-Shuaiby the Secretary-General and CEO of the ABCC made an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco which was endorsed by Her Royal Highness Princess Lala Joumala Alaoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the UK, who through her offices led the initiative with Maroc Export as local host and Organisers.

During the visit, Dr. Afnan Al Shuaiby met leaders of industry, heads of a number of trade associations, and the Ministry for Foreign Trade.

Meetings which took place;

• HE Mr. Abdellatif Maazouz, Minister of Foreign Trade.
His Excellency emphasised the importance of the UK market and expressed that this remains a market which many Moroccan companies/organisations still find difficult to enter. His Excellency also mentioned that he would like to see both greater encouragement and an improvement in the access for Moroccan companies seeking to enter the UK market. In return Dr. Afnan Al Shuaiby offered the use of ABCC as a base for Moroccan organisations and the chamber’s assistance in any way possible in order to bridge and improve the relations between the two markets.

• Moroccan Centre for Export Promotion (CMPE)
A non-profit public organization, under the support of the Ministry in charge of Foreign Trade, which was established in June 1981 to serve as the national channel for trade promotion and export development. During the meeting at Maroc Export, Morocco emphasised on the importance of trade with the UK market, to which the ABCC offered its support and willingness to lead in building bridges in order to enhance trade between the two markets across all sectors. 

• Mr Mohamed Horani and the Confederation of Morocco Industries –
The organisation acts as a link between the government and non government sectors in Morocco. During this meeting, Mr Horani highlighted the importance for Morocco to invest in broadening the teaching of English and to raise awareness of other non-traditional sectors where morocco has a distinct advantage.

• Mr Larbi Belarbi, President of the Moroccan Association for Motor Industries and Trade (AMICA).
The main issue addressed was about the growth in the Moroccan Motor industry, and the work they are doing with Renault. Dr. Afnan Al Shuaiby, discussed the possibilities available in the UK, and assured the ABCC willingness to assist the AMICA entry to the British Automotive market.

• Mr. Moustapha Sajid, President of Moroccan Association for Clothing and Textiles (AMITH).
With more than 850 members, AMITH is an important player in the Moroccan economy. AMITH is institutionalized with an elected structure representing all of the industrial activities, task forces, regional structures and a permanent team.

• Mr. Mohamed Amiiz, President of Moroccan Federation of Leather Industries (FEDIC).

• Mr Mohamed Larbi Lharras, Director General of the Federation of Moroccan Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services (FCMCIS).
Mr. Lharras emphasised on the efficient work done by the ABCC and how active the chamber is in ensuring that everyone they work with is satisfied.
