Background:

Born and raised in the Middle East as the son of a senior British diplomat. Following a degree in Middle Eastern Studies, joined Esso Petroleum and worked for two years as an oil terminal supervisor. Then joined the British Diplomatic Service and has spent the majority of his career in the Middle East.

Took unpaid leave from the FCO from 1999 to 2001 to take up the position of Managing Director for the Middle East with BAE Systems.

Since leaving the Diplomatic Service in late 2005, has established his own consultancy company offering marketing and positioning advice on the Middle East. Currently has a number of corporate clients. Is also a Director of the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce.

Made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George following his role in supporting the military action in Iraq in 2003.

Personal:

Born in 1951, married with two children. Enjoys playing the piano, writing, golf and tennis
