Mr Terry Stone
Terry Stone is a UK Chartered Accountant who is currently a Director of ABC International Bank plc. In addition, he is much involved in the promotion ofcommercial and financial relationships between the United Kingdom and the Arab world. His current responsibilities include:
- Member of the UK Government’s Africa/Middle East Advisory Committee (Formerly a long-standing member of the Committee for Middle East Trade(COMET))
- Director of the Arab British Chamber of Commerce
- Senior consultant on the Middle East to International Financial Services London ((FSL — formerfy 8ritish Invisibles) — a member organisation promoting the UK based financial services industry. He also chairs IFSLs Middle East Regional Advisory Group
- Executive Committee member and past Chairman of the Middle East Association
- Vice Chairman of the Qatar British Association of Businessmen, member of the Saudi British Joint Business Council and other joint committees and round tables with the Middle East countries
- Director of the Dubai Society
- Terry Stone retired as a senior partner in Ernst & Young in 1998 on reaching 60. having been with E&Y and its predecessor firms for the whole of his career. He was responsible for the provision of professional services to major clients throughout that time and had been a partner for 28 years
- Over those years he had served many major clients including:

- Arab Banking Corporation
- British Airways
- BTR
- National Bank of Kuwait
- Robert Fleming
- From 1980 he was responsible for liaison between the UK and Middle East firms of E&Y and was a frequent visitor to the Arab world. Ernst & Young commenced operating in the region in 1923 and now has 850 staff in 10 countries. Terry helped many Middle East financial institutions and firms set up business in the UK and continued to serve them subsequently. As a result, he came into contact with many leading businessmen from the region and has a deep understanding of the culture of the Arab woiid and business. On a broader front, he has wide experience of UK and international business and has travelled extensively outside the Middle East.
- He has been supportive of all endeavours to strengthen the UK’s relationship with the Middle East and has been a member of many delegations to promote the UK in the region. This has involved IFSL rn;ssions to Saudi Arabia. Qatar. Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. He has also accompanied the Lord Mayor on visits to most Arab countries In the past 2 years he has been involved with many inward visits to the UK from the Middle East and North Africa.
- With a wide experience of the Middle East and many long-standing contacts, he intends to continue to develop his involvement with this important area to the UK both strategically and for further business opportunities.
