Approaching a UK Importer Directly
If you have the name of a company but do not have a personal contact, the most effective way of reaching the right person is to write to ?The Managing Director', or to ?The Chief Executive' of a large company.
However, it would be better to try and obtain the correct name of the person you should contact by telephoning and asking the receptionist. If your company is unknown to the company you are contacting, it is essential that your sales literature gives a clear idea about your product and the background to your company. The quality of this literature is extremely important. Badly printed material with poorly reproduced photographs will not create a good impression. It is also worth spending money on having your product literature translated professionally.
If you are planning to visit the UK to meet potential importers, it is very important that you arrange appointments in advance. Send out letters and, having allowed a reasonable time for people to reply, follow up with telephone calls to confirm arrangements.
