Economic Focus
The summer issue of the A-BCC’s quarterly magazine, Economic Focus, has just appeared with nearly 100 pages of informative articles in both English and Arabic. The main themes in this issue are education and training, sustainability, investment, tax and law reform.
There are special focus reports on the UAE, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and the UK. In the Focus Reports section, Oliver Cornock, regional editor with Oxford Business Group, gives an overview of the UAE economy concentrating on recent initiatives to boost investment. Meanwhile, Olivia Dubreuil and Geoff Lane from PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) look at the challenge of sustainability in the Arab world and the appropriate policies that are required in order to respond to it.
Partnerships in the field of education are the subject of two articles, one on the European Union’s MEDA ETE Project which promotes cooperation in the Mediterranean region; a second article looks at the cooperation between the UK and Saudi Arabia on the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST). There is a short briefing on the opportunities available in Tunisia economy and a look at Qatar’s new lease law.
Action in the Arab world to prevent the production and circulation of shoddy counterfeit goods comes in the spotlight in a report by trade mark specialist, Saba Al-Sultani, from the London based Keltie. Recent tax changes unveiled in the last UK budget are explained in an article from St James’s Place Wealth Management. A regional focus on the city of Manchester is the latest in our series on attracting investment into the UK’s leading cities.
A new feature on customer focused management begins in this issue. There are also the regular features on revenue and customs, the UK economy, news from the A-BCC and member profiles.
