His Excellency Mr Tarek Adel, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Mr Adel has been the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the UK since November 2018. His previous position prior to the UK was Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (2016 - 2018). Shortly after joining the Department of International Organizations at the Egyptian Foreign Service in 1987, he was posted to the Egyptian Embassy in Washington (1989-1993). He then returned to Cairo to join the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of Egyptian- U.S relations (1993-1997). Later he was posted as the representative to the World Trade Organization, Egypt’s Mission to UN- Geneva (1997-2001), then moving back to Cairo to assume the position of Press Secretary to the Minister of FA. In 2004-2006, he was posted to Egypt’s Mission to the UN (NY), in charge of the ME in the Security Council. From 2006 -2007, Mr Adel was appointed as the Director of UN Affairs, Ministry of FA, Cairo, then (2007-2008) as an Advisor to the Minister of Investment, before being appointed Deputy Assistant FM (International Economic Affairs).
He was then appointed as Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Greece (2009 – 2013). He then returned to Cairo (2013-2015) as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Egypt to the League of Arab States, and (2015- 2016) Ambassador, Assistant FM (Arab Region Affairs). Ambassador Tarek Adel graduated from the American University in Cairo, 1986; with BA in Political Science and Economics. He was awarded ‘The Grand Cross of the Order of the Phoenix’, from H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic. Mr Adel is married with a son and a daughter.
The Rt Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Egypt
Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP was first elected to Parliament on 1 May 1997 for the Northern Ireland constituency of Lagan Valley. In 2015 he was appointed by the Prime Minister as UK Trade Envoy to Egypt. In his role as Trade Envoy, Sir Jeffrey supports the drive for economic growth by building on the UK’s relations with Egypt and maximising bilateral trade. His political career began in 1985 when he was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly with the distinction at the age of 22 of being the youngest person to win a seat at Stormont.
Sir Jeffrey continues as Member of Parliament for Lagan Valley and is currently the Chief Whip of the DUP Parliamentary Party in the House of Commons. In 2016 he was awarded a Knighthood by Her Majesty the Queen in her 90th Birthday Honours List. His wide interests are in ethical and constitutional issues, transport, defence and international development.
Eng. Ibrahim Mahmoud El-Araby Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and Vice Chairman of El-Araby Group
Eng. Ibrahim Mahmoud El-Araby is a respected public figure within the world of industry and commerce in Egypt and internationally. He has played an important role in the growth of El-Araby Group to become one of the largest industrial corporations in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East. He is the eldest son of Mr Mahmoud El-Araby, the founder of El-Araby Group and he has been Vice Chairman of the group since 2012, having previously served in several technical and managerial positions within the company. Since joining El-Araby Group's board of directors in 2005, Ibrahim El-Araby has participated in setting the company’s policies and strategies. Between 2008 to 2011, he headed the executive board of El-Araby companies.
Eng. Ibrahim El-Araby is Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC), Chairman of Cairo Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Union of African Chambers (UACCIAP), Senior Vice President of the Islamic Chamber (ICCIA) and Treasurer of the Union of Arab Chambers (UAC). Eng. Ibrahim El-Araby was born in 1953. He holds many public positions in Egypt and within high-level international organisations responsible for global trade. He is a member of the Board of The Arab-British Chamber of Commerce and several other joint chambers.He is motivated by a sense of public duty and has considerable experience in promoting technical education and in industrial zones management in Egypt which is reflected in his membership of the board of Quesna Industrial Zone. He is also a founding member of El-Araby Foundation for Social Development.
Dr. Alaa E. Ezz, Secretary General of the Union of African Chambers
Dr. Ezz has worked in the sustainable development fields for over 25 years during which he designed and implemented a host of projects and established companies in the Mediterranean and Arab regions. These regional projects encompassed industry, transport & logistics, sustainable development, investment promotion, technology transfer, trade liberalization & promotion, renewable energy & infrastructure, gender, HR development, access to finance and media. After ten years ending up as regional director for North Africa and Middle East in the United Nations Trade and Technology Promotion System, Dr. Ezz founded EnviroEgypt SAE a leading renewable energies, infrastructure and utilities corporation in the MENA region. Presently he is a First Under Secretary of State and secretary general of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce.
On the public side, Dr. Ezz is the Secretary General of the Union of African Chambers, the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations, the Egyptian-Russian and Egyptian-German Business Councils, the Egyptian chapter of the International Chamber of Commerce, and the Association of Enterprises for Environmental Conservation; the vice president of the Associació Mediterrània del Medi Ambient; the coordinator of Union of Mediterranean Employers Federations “BusinessMed”; the executive board member of the Med-Alliance, the Association of Mediterranean Chambers “ASCAME”, and the German Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce; board member of the MENA Investment Promotion Council and the Internal Trade Development Authority; the Coordinator of Al-Ahram Regional Press Institute; and managing editor of Environment Today and Economy Today Magazines and Terra Viva newspaper. After acquiring his M.B.,B.Ch., Dr. Ezz has obtained post graduate degrees and conducted research in the fields of Economics and Environment. His published work includes tens of scientific papers and economic studies, hundreds of articles and several books including “Sustainability and Development, a developing economies perspective“, “Investing in Egypt” “Trading with Free Trade Areas”, and “Environmental Planning for Developing Economies”.
The Rt Hon Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean, Chairman, The Arab British Chamber of Commerce
The Rt Hon Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean is a senior Labour member of the House of Lords and a business leader. Formerly Deputy Leader of the House of Lords, Baroness Symons was a Minister in the UK Government from 1997 until stepping down in 2005. Among her government posts she was Minister for the Middle East, Minister for International Trade and Minister for Defence Procurement, and the Prime Minister’s envoy to the Gulf.
Previously a trade union general secretary, she was an Equal Opportunities Commissioner and a governor of the London Business School. As well as working closely with DLA Piper, Baroness Symons is now involved with a number of other commercial organisations, including roles as a non-executive director of British Airways, and as an advisor to other companies, including those with strong Middle East links, and with a number of not-for-profit organisations, including the International Red Cross.
Mr Bandar Reda, CEO & Secretary General, The Arab British Chamber of Commerce
Mr Bandar Reda took up his position as Secretary General and CEO of the ABCC on 1st March 2019. As CEO for the Chamber, Mr Reda will contribute his expertise and a proven track record, along with his combined experience as a diplomat and extensive hands-on experience in the private sector to help bring the Chamber to the next level. Mr Reda has a distinguished professional career of more than a decade in banking and corporate industry at SABB HSBC Saudi Arabia, prior to taking up senior positions in the diplomatic service of his country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the Commercial Attaché in the UK & Europe and before that in Italy and the Saudi delegation to BIE in Paris.
Mr Reda holds a BA in Economics and Business Administration from Orlando USA. He was an Executive Member of the Saudi-Italian Business Council, Council of Saudi Chambers; a Member of the Business Youth Committee, Jeddah Chamber of Commerce; a Member of the Saudi Economy Association; and a Member of the Saudi Arabian legal accountants. Mr Bandar Reda’s undoubted experience and abilities is clearly demonstrated in his extensive career of service in both public and private sectors. This appointment will enable him to make a vital contribution to the strengthening of the Chamber’s activities and extend its influence as the leading strategic business services organisation in the UK working to improve bilateral trade.
