Dr Afnan Al-Shuaiby, Secretary General & CEO, Arab British Chamber of Commerce, led a successful Arab commercial delegation to the city of Newcastle over the period 8th to 12th March. The delegation was made up of commercial attaches from the Arab Embassies in London, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Tunisia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Yemen and the Arab Republic of Egypt. The trade visit was designed to develop closer business ties between the Arab countries and Newcastle which is a leading commercial centre in the North East of England and a part of the UK’s “Northern powerhouse”. The delegation was hosted by Newcastle NE1, the city’s business improvement company.
The occasion provided an opportunity to meet with some of Newcastle’s top corporations who are leaders in various fields such as manufacturing, engineering, education, research and innovation and genetic engineering. There were site visits to Pearson Engineering, part of the Reece Group, Shepherd Offshore, the Institute of Genetic Medicine and Newcastle University where the delegates were briefed on some of the latest breakthroughs in technology that have been developed in the city. The event concluded with a hospitality visit to the stadium of Newcastle United FC where members of the delegation were invited to experience one of football team’s major annual fixtures by the management of NUFC.Back To 2017 Gallery
